State of the art: research in the field of future studies in communication
To map the state of research on futures of communication in Europe, while identifying the main institutions that play a key role, the main research lines and the methodologies commonly used.

Futures studies became popular in northern Europe in the second half of the 20th century, unlike southern Europe where they are still uncommon. They study, in an essayistic and prospective way, future dynamics and challenges for society. From a diverse institutional format - academic model, government model, or foundation model - there are some centers in Europe that try to address the future to discover and predict it.

The objectives of this project are:

  • To characterize the research carried out in the field of prospective communication from the main European universities leading in Communication.
  • To identify and analyze the research model of institutions that, linked or not to universities, carry out prospective studies or future studies in general, to establish methodological dynamics and research structures.
  • To systematize and organize recent scientific production in the field of prospective studies in Communication to see the starting point and design innovative lines of scientific research.

This research is funded by the resources of the Chair in Futures of Communication.
